Spoiler Warning: The following review contains light spoilers about the movie’s plot and characters. If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend checking it out first and then coming back to read my thoughts!
Quick Overview:
- Arnie is a nerdy highschooler who gets a cool set of wheels that turns deadly! The bright red Plymouth Fury starts out normal enough…until Christine decides no one will get between her and Arnie.
- I decided to check this movie out because I found the premise interesting and scary – A car with a mind of its own?
2. The Good:
- The star of this movie was Christine (I mean, I guess that’s why the movie is called “Christine”!) – every time she was on screen, I felt a sense of dread. I also felt that Arnie’s change from meek, nerdy highschooler to “bad boy” was well done. I also felt that the tension and relationship between Arnie and his parents was written well. His act of rebellion was to buy a car with his own money after always doing everything his parents told him. Unfortunately, this act of rebellion is deadly for many people.
- I found that the chase scene when Christine was after Arnie’s bullies (the same group that vandalized her) was incredibly creepy and tension-filled.
3. The Bad:
- I don’t really think it’s a huge deal, but there was one small I thought didn’t make any sense – when Arnie’s friend Dennis is in the hospital, they mention it’s Thanksgiving. I’ve always wondered why Dennis’ family would leave him in the hospital alone on a holiday. Like I said, not a big deal, just a small plot hole I guess.
- However, most of the group of Arnie’s bullies are incredibly miscast – they look far too old to be in high school! I mean, that’s just my opinion, but it always stands out to me when I watch this movie.
4. The Verdict:
- If you like horror movies (or maybe even just classic cars!), I think Christine is one you shouldn’t skip! There’s not a monster in the traditional sense, but this Plymouth Fury is certainly monstrous! Give it a watch!
